Nutrition & Social Responsibility

Our Social Responsibility

Malnutrition among children in Rwanda remains a pressing issue, with approximately 35% of children under five being stunted and about 1.9% experiencing wasting. Additionally, many children and women face micronutrient deficiencies, particularly in vitamin A and iron, with rates estimated at around 40% for vitamin A deficiency among children. However, through comprehensive initiatives such as the National Nutrition Policy and community-based programs, the government has made significant improvements, reducing stunting rates by 10% from 2015 to 2020. Ongoing efforts, including food fortification and partnerships with organizations like WFP and UNICEF, aim to further combat malnutrition and enhance child health across the nation.

At Ishyo Foods Ltd we believe that our commitment to quality goes beyond just our delicious, nutritious yoghurts. We are deeply dedicated to making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve and recognize that collaboration is key to achieving lasting change. Through strategic partnerships with organizations like Save the Children, Sight and Life, the SUN Network, the World Food Programme (WFP), and others, we work tirelessly to ensure that our products are not only of the highest standard but also accessible and affordable for everyone, especially children in need.

In 2024, we partnered with Save the Children Rwanda to conduct an important study in the Mahama refugee camp, which is home to over 2,000 children. This initiative aimed to gain insights into the yoghurt market and affordability from both parents and children. By understanding the unique challenges faced by these families, we gathered valuable data that will inform our efforts to enhance our product offerings.

Continuing our mission to prioritize children’s nutrition, in February 2025, we extended our research to the owners of Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers. This survey aimed to further explore the nutritional needs and preferences of young children. The insights gained from this initiative will guide us in tailoring our products to better meet the nutritional requirements of children in these vital developmental stages.

Together, with the support of our partners, we are committed to breaking down barriers to accessing nutritious food. By aligning our efforts with global organizations focused on child welfare and nutrition, we can ensure that our yoghurts not only delight the taste buds but also contribute to the health and well-being of children everywhere. Join us in our journey to create a healthier future for the next generation!
